EY-modulo 5: unlimited building automation possibilities

The EY-modulo 5 automation station is the flagship of the SAUTER automation technology. As an open, future-orientated system, all functions, devices and applications and existing systems and equipment can be readily integrated using the BACnet protocol.

Embedded web technology and extended modular functions offer optimum solutions for all control tasks. Pneumatic systems

Pneumatic system is used for contamination control in clean rooms and high security labs. The pneumatics have a direct effect on and through the medium of air, so that a room pressure consistency of ±1.5 Pa and a settling time of 7 to 10 seconds after opening and closing a door can be achieved. Integration into the BMS is effected using electro-pneumatic converters, which exchange the required signals from and to the automation level. ATEX-certified components enable safe use in potentially explosive areas.

Health and productivity require an optimal indoor climate. From energy point of view, the minimum air volume should be turned down to the minimum fresh air requirement. In commercial buildings, good air distribution and quiet operation are a necessity. However, in laboratories the air through flow is continuously affected by disturbance factors caused by opening the doors and the sashes on the fume cupboards. For safety reasons and because of possible contamination thorough hazardous vapours fast reacting VAV systems are required. Also, mechanical constructional needs like circular or rectangular, standard or induction type with integration compatibility with any BMS are required.

Conventional VAV systems have proven in the past to be very efficient in providing an optimal indoor climate. However the latest standards and requirements for energy efficiency and human comfort make it more and more difficult to design conventional VAV systems in new buildings. Low air volumes could cause cold air dumping and lack of air movement in the room resulting in occupant discomfort. Induction VAV boxes provide no cold air dumping even with partial loads. They offer cooling, heating and ventilation in one unit. Little space is required with low noise level. They require low maintenance, no fan, no filter and no fins in recirculated air.

Kaba exos 9300

Kaba exos 9300 is a modern online access management and time + attendance system. It is the platform for our turnkey contracting business and an integrated element of the Kaba Total Access strategy. The system works on established software, networking and interface standards, serving not only the needs of the security and facility management department, but also those of operations, HR and IT.

Exos 9300 can be integrated conveniently into modern building management and HR/ERP systems. With additional modules such as visitor management, parking management, card production and contractor management, Kaba exos 9300 takes up trends from the modern working world and makes human resources management more convenient and efficient, of course also via the Web.

A new feature, the so-called master key system (MKS) module facilitates the management of mechanical locks as an integrated part of the access management system. This helps increase the customer’s convenience and security.

Kaba exos 9300 works well with standard relational databases like MS SQL and Oracle. It is in line with the increasing requirements of large organizations using only one database throughout the company or group.

Kaba exos CardLink

CardLink is one of Exos 9300’s most innovative features. It enables cable-free and cost-efficient extension of access management systems to include stand-alone electronic locking devices, and vice versa. This enables customers to increase organizational efficiency and operational convenience without compromising security.

Online functionality is made possible by loading access authorization data on a smart card (which functions as a key) rather than wiring all locking cylinders physically to a computer. This approach helps reduce investment levels as well as complexity.

Since access is always issued for a limited period of time (issuer can decide how long), there is no need for updating access rights manually in each door. This feature is especially useful in case of keys that are lost or returned to the reception at the end of a visit. Also, CardLink is highly stable as it does not make use of wireless or virtual networks. Full compatibility is guaranteed between online and stand-alone systems as all the components use the same software and are developed by Kaba.

This biometric registration unit features a high privacy protection level. Kaba is in favor of biometric verification with reference data on the personal ID card (or key) instead of a comparison of biometric measures with reference templates stored in a host system. The simple concept increases the speed of identification, eliminates constraints related to the number of referenced persons and effectively protects personal reference data against disclosure to third parties.

The Kaba exos sky online access management system is tailored to the security, control and flexibility needs of small and medium-sized organizations. This system is fully functional when delivered to the customer as the necessary data are located in an access hub equipped with a web server. Data are managed via Microsoft Internet Explorer, so there is no need to install additional software. The graphic operator guidance is completely intuitive and easily comprehensible, even when used infrequently. Should, however, the demands exceed the functional scope of Kaba exos sky, migration to Kaba exos 9300 is guaranteed at any time without the replacement of components, cabling or badges.

Kaba exos AMC

Kaba exos AMC is a sophisticated controller/access hub that performs complex monitoring and control tasks. This powerful, flexible and sabotage-proof controller is able to operate completely standalone if necessary, helping to reduce operational effort. It has an integral Ethernet interface and works on the basis of a real-time operating system. Kaba exos AMC is the central element of and guarantee for continuous online as well as offline operation of Kaba exos 9300; in addition, it is the platform for the online access management system Kaba exos sky.

Kaba exos iDML2

This new door manager (access manager) controls and monitors either one or two access points such as doors or turnstiles. It is directly integrated into IT platforms using an Ethernet port. No proprietary cabling is necessary anymore, meaning more efficiency and lower costs. The iDML2 handles the entire authorization management function: it decides on access, logs events and signals alarms. The device, developed according to the ISO 14 443A and ISO 15 693 standards, is capable of encrypted communication, making it unbeatable in remote locations. This intelligent device can be equipped with keypads, biometric modules or wide-area antennas. It can handle tasks for building management systems, alarm bypassing and window monitoring. It is also a “virtuoso” when it comes to RFID, supporting Legic and other industry standards.

These B-COMM ERP terminals are communication software for connecting Kaba terminals to the ERP systems of the respective solution providers.

The core of this software is an certified interface that ensures faultless data exchange between the individual ERP HR modules and the data collection devices. It provides a secure and robust bi-directional communication. Data collection operations can be functional even when the ERP system is unavailable.

This interface is kept updated with all technical developments of the ERP solution providers and is complementary to the functionalities of the ERP HR systems. The data collected and prevalidated by the B-COMM solution fits ideally into the functionality of the HR system and builds the base for enhanced transparency for all HR-related processes.

The use of B-COMM facilitates substantial savings to customers, as it collects, validates and sends time and labor information to the HR system automatically and accurately. In addition, delays and errors are eliminated, accuracy in payroll calculations is ensured, and efficient decision making is made possible through real-time availability of employee activities. One of the most successful energy management tools ever applied to building HVAC systems is the variable frequency drive.

Most conventional building HVAC applications are designed to operate fans and pumps at a constant speed. Building loads, however, are anything but constant. By matching system capacity to the actual load throughout the year, major savings in motor energy use are achieved. Drives are also used in lifts and interfaced to the BMS.

Early generation systems suffered from low power factor. Today's systems operate at a nearly constant power factor over the entire speed range of the motor. Another problem that has been corrected by today's systems is operational noise. As the output frequency of the drives decreased in response to the load, vibrations induced in the motor laminations generated noise that was easily transmitted through the motor mounts to the building interior. Today's drives operate at higher frequencies, resulting in the associated noise being above the audible range.

Further benefit of the units is reduced wear and tear on the motors. When an induction motor is started, it draws a much higher current than during normal operation. This inrush current can be three to ten times the full-load operating current for the motor, generating both heat and stress in the motor's windings and other components. In motors that start and stop frequently, this contributes to early motor failures. In contrast, when a motor connected to a VFD is started, the VFD applies a very low frequency and low voltage to the motor. Both are gradually ramped up at a controlled rate to normal operating conditions, extending motor life.

As VFDs continue to evolve, from numerous system benefits to an increasing range of available applications, they are proving to be ever more useful and powerful.
